GARY COLSTON
(Principal Percussionist) first performed with the orchestra in 1999 and began playing regularly with the orchestra during the 2001-2002 concert season. Following enlistment in the military after high school he played in several USAF Drum & Bugle Corps & ATC Bands. Following discharge from the military, Gary took a hiatus from playing for an approximate thirty years. After relocating to Florida in 1989 and purchasing a retail floral business, Gary decided to resume playing in the mid 90's. Since that time he has played at a number of churches in the area and with various groups including Edison College Concert Band and with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra as a percussionist and two years as principal timpanist.

CHARLENE JASSIM graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul where she studied piano with Margaret Barthel Baxstresser. She also studied flute with Mary Roberts Wilson and Anton Winkler. After receiving her MA degree from the University of Minnesota, she taught Elementary and Middle School in Mound, Minnesota, for 32 years. Charlene has traveled extensively as the recipient of scholarships from the U.S.Fulbright Exchange Program, the National Endowment for the Humanities, Japanese organizations, National Geographic Alliance and the University of Minnesota Research Explorations program. Her hobbies are genealogy, reading, writing, and sewing. Charlene and her husband Al own a home in Fort Myers and spend their summers in Minnesota on beautiful Lake Minnetonka in the Minneapolis area.
