An Evening of Stories & Song
Lee County Alliance of the Arts
10091 McGregor Blvd. in Fort Myers
Southwest Florida boasts some of the most beautiful natural scenes and fascinating species imaginable—and some pretty amazing artists! Experience the wonder of our surroundings in a unique way: set to words and music in “An Evening of Stories & Song.”
Sanibel resident, author and naturalist Charles Sobczak will read selections from his prose and poetry, complemented by music performed by members of the Gulf Coast Symphony. The chamber pieces span a variety of composers, eras, and instrumentation, and are chosen specifically to accompany the readings. This intimate event creates a harmonious blend of nature and the arts.
The author of, among others, Six Mornings on Sanibel, Rhythm of the Tides, and Living Sanibel, Sobczak combines his passion for nature with artful storytelling. His most recent nature guide, The Living Gulf Coast, won a Gold Medal Award for Florida non-fiction (2011) and many of his other titles have won national and regional awards.
“Having once been a professional musician, the concept of combining music with stories has a particular appeal to me,” says Sobczak. “I look forward to this exciting collaboration of two great art forms—stories and songs.”
After the performance, join the artists for a wine-and-dessert reception in the Gallery, and an opportunity for autographed copies of Sobczak’s books.
This special evening is presented by the Gulf Coast Symphony and the Lee County Alliance for the Arts. Proceeds support these community-based arts organizations.
